This value determines the acidity of the water and substrate, and directly affects how well the plant can absorb nutrients. Even with perfect nutrition and light, an incorrect pH can lead to deficiencies, growth problems, and lower yields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What is pH?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The term pH stands for potentia hydrogenii\u2014the concentration of hydrogen ions in a liquid. It&#039;s a scale from 0 to 14:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pH of 7 is neutral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Values below 7 are acidic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Values above 7 are basic (alkaline).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cannabis is a plant that grows optimally within a relatively narrow pH range. If the pH is too low or too high, certain nutrients become locked up, and the roots can no longer absorb them, even if they are present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The ideal pH for cannabis<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ideal pH depends on the growing system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83c\udf31 Soil (earth): pH 6.0 \u2013 6.8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udca7 Coco or hydro (hydroponics): pH 5.5 \u2013 6.2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In soil, the medium&#039;s natural buffering capacity helps absorb fluctuations. In hydroponics or coco, the root environment reacts much faster, making constant monitoring essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A slight variation within this range is actually beneficial, as different nutrients are more available at slightly different pH values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What happens when the pH is wrong?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the pH doesn&#039;t stay within the correct range, nutrient lockout occurs. This means that certain elements are no longer absorbed, even though they are present in the soil or nutrient solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Too low pH (too acidic):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absorption problems with calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Retarded growth, purple stems, deformed leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too high pH (too basic):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iron, zinc and manganese are poorly absorbed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yellow leaves and slow photosynthesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An incorrect pH can therefore cause deficiencies that appear to be nutritional deficiencies, when in fact the problem lies in the root zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How do you measure pH?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are three commonly used methods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">pH meter (electronic):<br>The most accurate method. The electrode directly measures the acidity of water or drain water. Regular calibration is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>pH test strips:<\/strong><br>Cheap and simple, but less precise. Suitable for quick checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>pH fluid (color indicator):<\/strong><br>A few drops in a water sample change color depending on the pH. Handy for home use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tip: Measure not only the irrigation water, but also the runoff water to see what is actually happening in the root environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How do you adjust the pH?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the pH is not in the ideal range, it can be adjusted with special products:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">pH-Down: lowers the pH (often based on phosphoric acid).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">pH-Up: increases the pH (often based on potassium hydroxide).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always use small amounts and mix well, as overcorrection is common.<br>Let the water sit for a few minutes and check again before pouring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Preventive tips<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check pH at least once a week, daily for hydro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always use pH-stabilized water (not too hard or heavily chlorinated water).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Combine pH control with EC (electrical conductivity) measurement to get a complete picture of the nutrient balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use biological buffers such as humus or dolomite lime in soil to maintain natural stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avoid abrupt swings \u2013 roots like stability.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In cannabis cultivation, pH plays a crucial role.
