Too much or too little water can seriously hinder growth and even damage the roots. While it may seem simple, proper water management requires an understanding of the plant&#039;s needs, the substrate, and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why water is so important<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Water is the lifeblood of plants. It transports nutrients, regulates temperature, and keeps cells strong and active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the root zone, water dissolves the fertilizers so the plant can absorb them. A proper balance between water and oxygen in the soil is crucial: roots need both to function properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the soil is constantly soaked, oxygen deficiency occurs and root rot can occur. If the soil is too dry, nutrient absorption stops, and the leaves wilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How often should you water cannabis?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no hard and fast rule \u2013 the frequency depends on several factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83c\udf31 Plant stage: Seedlings need little water; mature plants drink much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2600\ufe0f Climate and temperature: Warm, dry air accelerates evaporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83e\udeb4 Pot size and substrate type: Large pots and coco coir retain more water than small pots or light soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udca7 Humidity: At low RH, water evaporates faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rule of thumb: only water again when the top 2 to 3 cm of soil feels dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A handy method: lift the pot. Is it light? Time to water. Still feels heavy? Wait a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How much water should you give?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The correct amount is just enough to allow a little drainage (about 10\u201320%) to come out of the pot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ensures that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salts do not accumulate in the substrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The roots can absorb moisture everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, a 10-liter pot usually needs 1 to 2 liters of water per watering, depending on conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The right way to pour<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use water at room temperature (20\u201322\u00b0C)<br>Cold water can cause root shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour slowly and evenly<br>Water in small amounts so that the soil absorbs it well, instead of flushing everything at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avoid constantly wet feet<br>Ensure good drainage at the bottom of the pot (holes and a drainage layer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check the pH and EC<br>For optimal absorption, the irrigation water should have a pH of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">6.0\u20136.8 in soil<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5.5\u20136.2 in coco or hydro<br>And a suitable EC (conductivity) depending on the growth phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Watering in different growth phases<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seedling stage (first weeks)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use a vaporizer or spray bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep the topsoil moist, but never soggy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Growth (vegetative phase)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plants drink more due to rapid development of leaves and stems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give small amounts regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flowering<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Water requirements increase sharply during bud formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check daily, especially in warm weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last weeks before the harvest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reduce feeding and give only clear water (rinse) to maintain a pure taste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Common mistakes when watering<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udeab Too much water<br>Leaves droop, the soil stays wet, and growth stops.<br>\u27a1\ufe0f Let the pot dry out and improve drainage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udeab Not enough water<br>Leaves curl or discolour, the soil comes loose from the edge of the pot.<br>\u27a1\ufe0f Water slowly until the soil absorbs it evenly again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udeab Wrong pH<br>Nutritional deficiencies or blockages despite adequate fertilizer.<br>\u27a1\ufe0f Regularly check the pH of the irrigation and drainage water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tips for optimal water management<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2705 Use filtered or resting tap water to reduce chlorine.<br>\u2705 If necessary, add enzymes or root stimulators during growth.<br>\u2705 Use mulch or perlite to better retain moisture.<br>\u2705 Observe your plants: their leaves tell you more than every meter.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most common mistakes when growing cannabis is improper watering.
