They feed on plant sap, weaken the plant, and can transmit viruses. Early detection and effective control are essential to protect yield and quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Whitefly Recognition<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Appearance: Small, white insects 1\u20132 mm in size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Location: Usually on the underside of leaves, but will also fly up if disturbed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Damage to plants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yellow, wilted or curled leaves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sticky substance on leaves (honeydew)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reduced growth and yield<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A simple way to detect whiteflies is to hang a yellow sticky trap near the plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Causes of whitefly infestations<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overcrowding in the breeding room due to lack of natural enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Insufficient ventilation creating warm, humid conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New contamination via outdoor plants or used materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Preventive measures<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Improve air circulation: Use fans to avoid stagnant air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hygiene: Remove dead leaves and clean the growing area regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yellow\/sticky traps: monitor and reduce adult whiteflies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quarantine: check new plants before adding them to existing grow rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Control methods<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Organic:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neem oil: spray on leaves, has a repellent effect and suffocates larvae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Introducing natural enemies of whiteflies: Aphidoletes, Encarsia or other beneficial insects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garlic or soap solutions: low toxicity, may reduce population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Chemical:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use only as a last resort and according to the instructions.
